What is the production process of polypropylene FDY fibre like?

The production process of polypropylene FDY fibre is simple, including "one-step spinning" and "two-step spinning". Fibers are obtained by polymerization of propylene as raw material, modification of the raw material, melt spinning, filtration of the spinning melt, air cooling, winding and production. Compared with the "two-step spinning" production process, the "one-step spinning" method has the advantages of occupying less space, requiring fewer workers and having lower costs. However, the problem is that the strength of the polypropylene filament produced by the "one-step spinning" process is relatively low. 

Therefore, the modification of its raw materials is quite important. Currently, the manufacturing method of polypropylene high-strength filament is mostly used. Its characteristic is that polypropylene resin with a melt flow index MFI of 5-40 and a molecular weight distribution index MWD of less than 7 is spun at a speed of 400-1600/ min, and then two-stage traction and twisting are carried out on a spindle-type traction twisting machine to produce high-strength polypropylene filament with a fineness of 400-1600 min.

Due to the advantages of polypropylene FDY fibre such as simple production process, low cost, high strength and light relative density. It is currently the fourth largest variety of synthetic fibers and the lightest among common chemical fibers. However, it has poor thermal stability, is not resistant to sunlight, and is prone to aging and brittleness. Therefore, anti-aging agents are often added to polypropylene.
